Our Philosophy: Fair Trade Music

We are often asked why MySongStore® is called "The Fair Trade Download Service."  We call it The Fair Trade Download Service because of our commitment to the underlying belief that artists deserve a sustainable income from providing entertainment. This isn’t a new concept: throughout history, the most enlightened societies ensured that the arts were supported because of their beneficial influence on people. 

More recently, the international Fair Trade movement arose from the need for farmers and artisans in third-world countries to receive a fair price for their products.  In many cases, providers did (and do) not earn enough to support their families, while the companies that purchase their products profit substantially from their labor.

The Fair Trade philosophy of MySongStore® ensures that its member artists receive the highest possible royalties from download sales.  MySongStore® also returns five percent of profits to member artists in good standing, and donates another five percent to non-profit organizations that promote sustainability and fair trade practices.
